Journal Entry 2
Through early stages of the pandemic, Malaysia had successfully restrained the people from going out and roaming in public places to avoid the virus to spread. As a result, the number of cases did not increase to a critical level where netizens were allowed to go out again to work and continue our daily life as normal. However, the pandemic turned worse and we have to go back to the norm of being locked indoors. Due to this, there are several assumptions I have been thinking on why this issue is happening and what it may cause. Firstly, I assumed that there are still a few of groups of people who did not want to follow the rules set by the government during movement control order (MCO). This is because they are not aware of the negative impact of the virus towards their health when they are going outside without any sign of urgency. They continued in doing routine that they are supposed to temporarily avoid, such as making close contact with others, hanging out in public, or not wearing mask to cover their mouth. Although it is stated that COVID-19 is less deadly than other types of coronaviruses, it became the main reason on why it can be spread to thousands of people undetected and without symptoms (Gavi, 2020). Secondly, I assumed the government failed to control over the stubborn netizens who did want to stay home. In my opinion, they are supposed to be stricter to them. For example, they can send a team of police officers to scout at possible places targeted to be a gathering area for the people especially in rural areas. This is important to alarm them about the consequences they may create. Lastly, I assumed that the impact of the increase cases will become a rough challenge for working adults. Since people are no longer allowed to go anywhere freely, many businesses went down as sales dropped tremendously. Moreover, they will also lost their jobs due to companies being short of money. This severely affected many families as they got nothing else to be their source of income to support their daily needs. Thus, these assumptions are what I have thinking as a response to the statement. It is true that Malaysia has been in crucial state through these recent days. Nonetheless, I hope everyone is still going to fight against this pandemic to make sure we can live in a better and healthier environment.
