Despite living in a modern environment, issues such as sexual violence is never near to fade away from the society. Even now, not every behaviour can be considered as valid nor people should normalize those said behaviours. Sexual violence is as well highlighted on any kind of sexual act that is against someone's consent, including sexual harassments and assault, especially towards female victims. It is common to hear incoming cases regarding this problem and girls are the majority who are badly affected by it. Precisely, there are three premises to justify on why this matter is true and should be taken seriously.

The first point to proof that girls are on greater risk of experiencing sexual violence is because girls are easy victim to be targeted because they are young and weak. Usually, when there are cases about sexual issues in newspaper or news report, people can feel alerted that innocent girls are the biggest group of people to end up being their victims. Besides, younger people are at the highest risk to suffer the condition rather than elder generation. It was stated that girls under 20 years old are often to be forced to do sexual intercourse or any other sexual act, which estimated almost 1 in 10 among 150 millions number of girl victims (Unicef, 2020). Moreover, 90 percent of them who report forced sex admit that their first perpetrator is someone they know, usually is either boyfriend or husband.

Next point is that people often sees girls as a tool for them to joke around. Sexual harassment also is a form of sexual violence. Young girls usually have a hard time to confessed about their suffering because they are lacking of people who they can fully trust. For example, girls who break the tradition in participating into male works and field of interest such as sports will likely to be judged with negative responses.  Furthermore, the act of sexual violence is also to control and dominate others only to humiliate them rather than sexually stimulate them. Girls tends to be more emotional than boys, so ideally, girls become more common victims to sexual violence than boys. According to Connley (2017), he stated that Shawn Burn, a psychological professor said that many men are surrounded by a culture that reduces women to sexualized objects, which normalize female colleagues in less professional manner.

Lastly, many girls are at risk to sexual exploitation is because they lack on attention given by the parents and people in their surrounding. When girls are not being supervised by their parents with such care, they tends to overwhelmed with sadness and loneliness thus insecurities will build itself into them. Because of this, they may not protect themselves in dangerous situations nor know how to escape from it, especially with strangers or anybody that tries to harass or sexually assault them, or even worse, rape them. In addition, one of relationship factors that leads girls getting risk of perpetration is with emotionally unsupportive family environment (Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, n.d.).

Thus, these are the three reasons one why girls got the greater risk to experience sexual violence and exploitation. By this, it is important to collect more information regarding this matter so public can have awareness and overcome this problem in real life. Probably some of us have not ever think about being a victim of this problem but to girls who has been trapped into this suffering incident, they are traumatized. All in all, people should respect other people so we can reach a peaceful living environment, with zero sexual violence cases.
